Pinal County Update

Here are updates on projects throughout Pinal County. These come from Tim Kanavel, Pinal County Economic Development Manager and are current as of June 16, 2015.

4. Florence Copper Project $280M+ 250
  • Awaiting federal EPA water and testing permits
  • In-situ copper mining
  • Within the Town of Florence boundary

5. Tractor Supply Co. $100M 300
  • Completion date of September 1, 2015
  • Completion/operational date in July-August 2015
  • Located on 90 acres
  • FTZ company
  • ACA/GPEC lead project

6. Mine Filtering Plant $500M 375
  • Rezoned in Fall 2014
  • Rail served (Magma Rail Line) NE San Tan Valley
  • Connected to Union Pacific Phoenix Line
  • No construction timeline given
  • Dependent upon operational date of Resolution Mine
7. Home Depot $5M 75+
  • Company to go before Site Review process in Fall 2015
  • Expected construction date in early 2016 – early 2017
  • Site work 60% already constructed
8. Urgent Care Extra $5M 25
  • Currently under construction-expected opening in mid-July 2015
  • Located at NEC Gary and Empire Roads in San Tan Valley
  • Entire site will have additional commercial/office applications
9. Storage/warehouse facility $1M N/A
  • Project completed March 3 – at full capacity
  • 3 new STV sites picked by client for construction
  • 30,000sf storage facility (I of 3 proposed buildings in STV/AJ areas)
  • AZ Farms Road at UP tracks in San Tan Valley
10. Stand-alone ER #1 $7M 35
  • Site is in negotiation between client and land owner
  • Owner will have 2nd site plan review on April 8
  • Located at NWC Ocotillo and Ironwood Roads in San Tan Valley
  • Dallas based company
  • Construction to begin by September 2015
11. Zip Line $200K 10
  • To be operational by July 1 -under construction
  • 6 line Zip Line Tour
  • Longest line at 1450′ with 150′ drop in elevation
  • To be located near Oracle
  • Part of a partnership with rock climbing, ATV and jeep tours

  • Site to go thru rezoning ASAP
  • Locating on Rt 84 near Libre Road in western Pinal County near Hidden Valley
  • Will hold semi-pro and professional level racing
  • 3 level s of tracks for various skill levels
  • Located on 60 acres
14. International diplomatic security company NEW N/A N.A
  • Met with client on April 23 to discuss project
  • Will be based at the Pinal Air Park
  • Based out of Washington DC
15. Various retail/commercial projects in various stages of concept to land purchasing $100M 650
  • Projects in San Tan Valley, San Manuel, Oracle, Hidden Valley
  • Ultra marathon, Fitness centers, grocery stores, restaurants, etc..

Current ongoing studies in Pinal County include:

  • Pinal Air Park Master Plan Study – completion in July 2015
  • Copper Corridor Broadband Study -infrastructure study for the Copper Corridor – will assess positives and negatives of services provided. A follow up study will give upgrade recommendations -Study started in February – to be completed in September, 2015
  • Houston Industrial Park Improvement District Study – completed and working with Apache Junction city officials to enact
  • PARA study for southern Pinal County -regional transportation/economic development study –
  • completion Spring 2015
  • San Tan Valley Economic Development/Land Use Study -study to determine best economic course for STV -completion expected in 2017
  • County Workforce Skills Assessment study -assessment of countywide labor force skills – completed in January 2015
